Fighting Global Warming At Home
In the home, start by changing the type of light
bulbs you use. Don't toss any good light bulbs away, but every time you need to replace
a bulb, throw out the the old incandescent bulb and put in a compact
fluorescent. Compact fluorescent light bulbs use less electricity for the same intensity of
light. So not only will this action reduce greenhouse gases, it will save you
money in the long run.
Recycling is another easy way to help fight global warming. Everyone can do it with little effort. For example, get a stainless steel water bottle and refill it, instead of buying water in plastic bottles. You can also further the process by using products that are made from recycled materials. If you use a power mower to cut your lawn switch to a push mower instead. A push mower uses no energy, but your own - this is a great savings (and good exercise). If you do use a power mower, you can still help. Use a mower that catches the grass clippings, so you can compost or mulch them. Turning to transportation, make your next car a green car - a hybrid or electric vehicle, etc. Drive your current car sensibly, with no rapid starts for instance, this will save on fuel and help prevent global warming. Keep your car well-maintained. Change your oil and keep your car tuned. This can make a big difference in global warming. Poorly inflated tires can contribute to global warming. Tires must have the proper amount of air in them, for the car to reach maximum fuel efficiency. The less efficient your car is, the more it adds to global warming. Another way to slow global warming is to modify the way you use your car. Combine chores when you can and make fewer trips. Walk when you can. When you have to drive, slow down a little bit, you will get better MPG. Individuals can fight global warming in their home and in how they use their cars. Some basic changes can be easily made. Make the changes that you can do, it will make a difference. And collectively, it can have a powerful impact on global warming.
