All About Oil Central Heating

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Most people today use gas as the main fuel for their central heating, totally oblivious that there is another fuel that can be used gas. In most cases, gas is not used in homes only when these properties are in areas that do not have access to a main gas supply line. This is more common than most people think especially in rural locations.

Many people choose to make their homes in remote locations in the countryside. These houses are very often far away from the next house meaning a gas line is out of the question, but they have to heat their house somehow. It is also thought that isolated homes in the countryside can be colder in the winter than those which are more closely built together in the city centres. Oil, therefore, becomes the fuel of choice for countryside dwellers when it comes to heating up the home.

Although the two systems work in exactly the same way, i.e. heating up the water to warm the radiators, it is just the method used to heat the water that differs one uses a oil fired boiler while the other a gas boiler. The only real difference between the two, and one that is probably deemed as a disadvantage, is the fact that oil has to actually be delivered to the house. However, for most people with oil central heating this is not a problem as they soon get used to it. People who have never had oil central heating before though, may find the idea of having an oil tank in the garden somewhere rather strange, not to mention the fact that they would have to phone up to order the oil.

Nevertheless, for those people living in rural spots, oil based central heating systems are the only sort they can have, so it offers the perfect alternative to other systems such as gas.

This winter period is going to be ever so cold, so make sure that you have the needed heating oil in place.

Which Type of 12 Volt Solar Charger Is Best?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Many people know that solar chargers are a good alternative to non-renewable energy sources, but not everyone knows just how easy they are to build. The purpose of this report is to explain important information about different kinds of solar battery chargers, including how to build your own.

In the simplest terms, a battery charger may be nothing more than a power supply that sends electricity of a specific voltage to a battery. All you have to do is connect the battery to the power supply, wait for it to fully charge, and then take it out. A 12 volt battery may be recharged in a 15-18 volt power supply. The price of this system’s simplicity, though, is that it’s easy to overcharge the battery.

When overcharged, a battery’s life is likely to decrease. Overcharging a 12 volt battery too often can damage it to the point that it will no longer maintain a charge. The method for ensuring that the right voltage is used and that the battery is not overcharged is to use a charge controller. A charge controller is equally necessary when you’re using a 12 volt solar charger, as it allows you to let a battery charge throughout the day without the possibility of overcharging.

The most widely used kind of charge controller for 12 volt batteries is a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) charge controller. With a PWM charge controller, a switch is turned on and off repeatedly in relation to the flow of the electricity. Initially, the switch stays “on” more. As electricity is moved to the battery, the switch spends more time activated than deactivated, and once the battery is fully charged, it no longer flips back on. The charging process is overseen by a microprocessor chip. Thus, you can leave this type of charge controller plugged into a battery indefinitely, since it will only transfer electricity to the battery when necessary, without the risk of overcharging. Topping up a battery in this way is known as “trickle charging,” and it will allow you to make sure that a battery is fully charged for whenever you happen to need it. If you’re using a 12 volt solar charger, it’s handy to have this feature. 12 volt batteries for recreational vehicles and boats are often charged in this way, for example.

These are the basic components that make up a 12 volt solar charger. What differentiates a 12 volt solar charger from a standard battery charger is the power source. Solar battery chargers collect power through the use of a solar panel rather than from a wall outlet.  If you want to save money, building a DIY solar panel to use in a 12 volt solar charger is a great way to go.  Read more at DIY Solar Panel.

For the common solar panels used on homes, the solar cells are usually around half a volt and three to four amps. Several of these cells have to be connected in order to produce the 15-18 volts necessary for a 12 volt battery charger. It’s possible to find small solar panels in quite a few different voltages. You do have to match the voltage of the solar panel to your charge controller. On each charge controller, you’ll see a voltage rating, which indicates the correct voltage. A solar panel of 15-18 volts is usually a fairly safe bet if you can’t use a charge controller for whatever reason. However, if you are using a charge controller, it’s important to use the appropriate voltage.  You can build your own 12 volt solar charger with the help of GreenDIYEnergy.  To read my article about it, visit GreenDIYEnergy Review.

Depending on the controller, the method for wiring it to the solar panel can be different. Whatever type of connector is used on your charge controller, just solder one onto the solar panel. If you’re not using a charge controller, you can do so with the same type of connector that’s on the battery. Spring loaded clamps are a good choice with most larger 12 volt batteries. You do have the choice of applying electrical tape instead of soldering, but soldering is a longer-lasting solution, and, in this case, it’s a very quick procedure. A soldering iron and solder, which you can find at lots of places including Radio Shack, are all you’ll need to do this. First, twist the wires together.  Then, apply the soldering iron to the wires.  Finally, touch the solder to the wires until it melts. There are only a couple of things to be careful of: don’t burn yourself on the wires, and make sure to heat the wires directly with the soldering iron, and not the solder itself.  Homemade Energy is another great guide to building your own 12 volt solar charger.  If you’re interested, check out Homemade Energy Review.

It’s really that simple! If you can do that, you can put together a 12 volt solar charger without any problems. First, you’ll have to have a 12 volt battery. A charge controller with the corresponding voltage is also necessary. Buy or build a solar panel that outputs the correct voltage for the charge controller. Then, you just need to connect the solar panel to the charge controller, then connect the charge controller to the battery as explained. That’s it; now, you’ve got free power forever! What’s more, you get some serious residual benefits: you save money, because you don’t have to pay for the electricity you need to charge the battery; you reduce emissions, as electricity generated by solar panels doesn’t pollute like electricity from oil or coal-fired plants does; and you help the country by reducing dependence on foreign oil.

Is There A Future For The Washing Machine?

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Is the world changing for the better, because it is really changing? There are so many people out there looking for greener options and ways to save money which is why wahsing machines are being looked into. This isn’t just for the home either; many companies are looking for greener commercial washing machine and commercial dishwashers.

So is there anything on the way for the washing machine or is it set to be replaced by something new and better? Well washing machines are supposed to be getting a complete overhaul by 2030 according to many sources. Ultrasonic washing machines are apprently to become the norm in peoples homes. Ultrasonic machine, what on earth is that I hear you say?

Well apparently they run with nearly no water and the only part water is needed is at the beginning. Getting the detergant off of the clothes is not easy to do which is why water is needed to wash it away from the clothing. The new ultasonic machines will actually send out sound waves onto the clothes at a very powerful speed which in turn rips the detergant away from the clothes. If this stopped hand washing then it would certainly sell a lot because people just do not have the time to do all of the work.

If you think this idea is brand new it really isnt but was laughed at in the 80s. However with energy prices soaring through the roof and the worlds resources looking very thing, companies are looking for solutions like this to have in their commercial laundry equipment.

It is also said that the spin on these washing machines will be strong enough to power things like the dishwasher and that our future showers will be powered by recycled rainwater. If you think about it the water that we use for out showers is actually recycled already it just gos through a lot of stages to make it clean?

This will only really takeover from the normal washing machine if people are saving money in the long run?

Earth4energy – Learn How to Build Solar Panels

Friday, August 28th, 2009

The Earth4Energy manual is a great step-by-step guide for anyone wanting to build their own solar or wind power generator. The decision to use solar or wind power for an alternative energy source is not only great for the environment, it’s also very good for your wallet. Let me explain.

The first homemade solar panel I built was a portable solar power system for just under $200. You know, when I started building renewable energy sources I did it because of curiosity. I had heard that many people managed to create energy-generating devices, so I thought I will manage to do them to. When I found information about earth4energy and its videos I had no doubts that this is what I need.

The guide contains so many different solar panels blueprint, personally I used only portable solar panel, however if you want for example a grid-intertied panel you will find how to build it there. You know, the most powerful setup is undoubtedly an off-grid setup, it can generate electricity fo your entire house and sometimes even give electricity to your neighbours. But what about the price of the materials?

Believe it or not, but if you have enough materials in your household, you will spend $0 to build a solar panel. Some of the required materials are very easy-to-find, moreover, we use some of them every week.

The whole guide is not only about building solar panels, it will also show you how to build wind turbines. Believe it or not, but a small turbine could cost less than one hundred dollars, you know, they are ten times as expensive in shops. However, the problem is that it is impossible to generate electricity if you do not have enough wind in your country. A basic rule is that you want the average wind speed in the area to be around 10mph for the unit to be cost effective.

If you really want to build a wind turbine or a solar panel to generate electricity, earth4energy is undoubtedly what you need. How do windmills work
